Cool as a Co-ord

You may or may not have noticed but fully coordinated outfits, or co-ords as they’re affectionately known, are having a bit of a moment and have been for some time now.

Take everything you’ve ever thought was wrong about fashion, so matching your prints and patterns, but in separate items, and throw that out the window.  If you want to look effortlessly cool throughout the summer this is the look to go with, and surprisingly it works for every and any situation, we’re talking beach chic, special occasion outfits, everyday girl about town and even workwear – take a peak below.

Looking at the inspo images you can see how easy it is to go from pretty and girly to sports luxe or office appropriate.  It’s also really simple, no nonsense dressing because the look and style is already put together for you in two simple items.  Don’t be shy though and add your own spin to an outfit if you’re comfortable doing so.  Maybe you could trying colour clashing a t-shirt or cami with a blazer and short or trouser co-ord, this will also brake up the print if you’re feeling it’s a little too heavy.

However you want to try this look the high street stores and online retailers are packed to the rafters with different options. So, before you hit the shops think about what items you already have in your wardrobe, as you may have pieces that will work well when teamed with the co-ord items separately – the outfit options could be endless!

Beachwear Essentials

Which way is the beach?  I don’t know but I hope I get there soon.  It’s that time of year when we all start to think about the warmer weather that a beach holiday offers us whether it’s a full on 2 week break with the family, or a fun filled weekend away with the girls.  And the most important thing to plan after you’ve booked your ‘hols’ is of course your beachwear wardrobe.

Long gone are the days of a plain vest and pair of shorts being chucked on to get you from breakfast to the sun lounger, now your outfit is more likely to consist of sandals, beach bag, kaftan, swimwear, jewellery, sunglasses and a hat…phew that’s a long list, especially if you’re off for 14 whole days of summer sun.

Of course it’s not all about posing around the pool, but if you look good, you’ll feel good and everyone has little anxieties around holiday season as to how they may look lying on a lounger in comparison to everyone else.  You also don’t have to be flashing a lot of flesh to feel sexy, and it certainly doesn’t matter when it comes to topping up that tan – have you seen how many straps the swimsuits and bikinis have nowadays?!

Take a look at some of the inspirational images below and you’ll see how easy it is to chose you best feature to flash.

Don’t let your holiday wardrobe stress you out, we all want something new to wear but I bet if you look back through what you bought last summer you’ve got some real gems already waiting to be worn again.  Then all you need to do is update with a few choice accessories, maybe a new cover-up or pair of sandals and before you know it you’ll be itching to get your body on that beach.

So with that in mind here’s a round up of some of my favourite summer suitcase purchases from swimwear to cover-ups, temporary tattoos, jewellery and beach clutches, plus much more.   I like to shop at big high street and online stores like Topshop, H&M and ASOS, but it’s also good to find independent stockists like Dancing Leopard and Beach Cafe where you can find new brands, along with all sorts of bits and pieces other people may not yet have spotted.

They Call it Mellow Yellow

Yellow may not be the first colour you think of searching for when out shopping, but let’s be honest, it’s more likely to pop out and grab your attention rather than requiring you to hunt it down.  And if you’ve been out and about on the high street over the last couple of weeks you’ll probably have noticed more and more of this vibrant shade peeping through the rails of clothing and shelves of shoes.

We were lucky enough to be treated to some gorgeous sunshine last weekend, granted we’ve returned to rain, but if you want to keep that warm sunny glow about your person yellow is the way to go.

I talk a lot of about key colours, or the colours of the season and am a firm believer in the fact that you can wear whatever you colour you like.  Never think something is off limits just because of skin or hair tone, all that’s needed is to make sure you’re wearing the right shade.  Yellow has a fantastic spectrum with everything from muted mustard, pale pastels and high-vis neons.

I like to wear yellow as a block colour on my bottom half, I just bagged myself a pair of the bright yellow wide leg cropped trousers from Zara (I’ve listed them below), then you can team it with anything on your top half – prints, stripes, lace or more block colours.  Try it as a zingy alternative to your usual jeans or black bottoms and I think you’ll be surprised at how well it works. If you’re not feeling brave enough to go full force just yet, you can add a hint with mouth watering accessories whether that’s shoes, bags, hats or jewellery.

Go on, create your own sunshine till that little yellow ball of fun returns to our skies.

Bold Statements or Delicate Details

Morning! Sorry for my silence this week, the Bank Holiday Monday threw me then we’ve had sickness and Birthdays galore! I’m currently putting the last of my organisational skills into my son’s 3rd Birthday party this Sunday, we have 30 kids coming – just don’t!

Anyway, I couldn’t leave you lonely all week, plus I’ve had a couple of requests and of course want to give you topics you want to read about, so keep them coming.  And with that in mind today’s post is about statement necklaces and the variations they come in.

I guarantee that when you hear statement necklace you think big, bold, over-sized and eye-catching, and you wouldn’t be wrong. If you’re looking for a quick, easy and often a cost effective way to elevate your outfit, a big chunky statement necklace is without a doubt your go-to accessory. There are also countless trends that can be easily channeled just by adding this one statement piece. Depending on the season or just your mood, you can do deco, minimal, tribal, boho, Victoriana – the list is endless.  Just take a look below at some catwalk and street style inspo.

Now, if chunky jewellery isn’t your thing, the very modern and oh so trendy way to do a’statement necklace’ is actually by layering up lots of dainty chains and charms.  I personally love this look and it’s something I wear a lot of, in fact I sleep in my chains and deal with the knotted consequences every morning!  It’s also a really nice way to inject some individuality into your outfit, you can pick charms that have a meaning or reference to you – star signs, engraved discs, nicknames, children’s initials. And if you don’t have the time or it’s just too much effort you can now buy your multi chains already attached, meaning it couldn’t be easy to achieve this layered look.  Be inspired by the below.

Decisions, Decision hey? Well don’t despair here’s a selection of my high street favs, from big bold statement neck wear to the delightful dainty details.

Arm Candy fit for the Beach

We’re not far from May now, which really marks the start of summer.  If like me you’re already dreaming of warmer climes, crystal clear seas and white sands you’ve probably also been shopping for ‘holiday essentials’ at any spare opportunity.

Bikinis, sandals, beach cover-ups, they’ve all been available on the high street and online for some time now, so the next item to tick off your capsule holiday wardrobe is the beach bag.

When I buy something I like to get maximum usage out of an item, something that I can use at home and away, so the perfect beach bag purchase this summer is the straw or raffia bag.  Now I know this is essentially not anything new, but with the likes of beautiful British brand, Rae Feather making straw beach baskets and even clutches the most desirable (not to mention instagrammed) bags on the summer scene, I can promise you will not be saving this bag purely for beach holiday purposes.

If you’ve not yet discovered Rae Feather you only need to look through your Instagram feed to see a whole host of fans.  Rae Feather believe that with simplicity comes longevity – music to my ears!  We all want those timeless pieces in our wardrobe that we look to use again and again, season after season.  They also offer a fantastic monogram service so you can really make your bag your own, with initials and even choosing a colour way for the stripe details….Their monogram clutch is high on my birthday wish list.

Just take a look below to see how you can take this piece of arm candy from bustling city to beautiful beach life.

So if you’ve got some room left in that suitcase of yours now is the time to hit the high street and bag yourself a little straw number.  It can also double as a great piece of hand luggage with plenty of room for storing your duty-free purchases…Happy Holidays.

Shady Lady

It’s Wednesday, yes that’s the dreaded ‘hump day’, but hey, it’s mid-week and the glorious sun has got it’s hat on.  Now before we all get too excited the forecast is not great for the rest of the week, but I guarantee the last couple of days with that bright ball of yellow stuff in the sky has had you reaching for a pair of sunnies…Hence today’s blog.

Sunglasses for me are not just summer accessory, more of an all year round necessity, s0 much so my husband calls me Wacko, as in Michael Jackson, who wore sunglasses – a lot!

With this in mind I scour the high street and designer outlet stores for out-of-season bargain purchases.  TK Maxx is one of my favourite haunts and I have managed to find myself Valentino, Stella McCartney and Yves Saint Laurent sunglasses here – what a winner.  But of course early spring is the time when you will find a much wider selection of shapes, styles and colours, with the high street will be ripping off the catwalk looks left, right and center, just wait till you see what Primark has to offer.

If you are considering some new specs for summer but are unsure as to which direction to go have a look at some of the SS16 and FW16 catwalk offerings.

You’ve got a bit of everything there, from wild and wacky or cats eye to coloured and over-sized round lenses.  If you’re investing in a designer pair it’s probably safer to go with something classic rather than trend led, obviously you get wear out of them season after season, but if it’s a gift or just a special splurge push the boat out and try something new.

The Chloe huge circle lenses have been a massive hit with the ‘fash pack’ and this has filtered through to the high street, allowing us mere mortals to achieve a high end catwalk look on a show string budget

With all this in mind here’s a few of my favourites ranging from £1 – £200.

Back to Back…Pack

That’s right ladies, the new bag du jour is the backpack. We’re not talking the big old rucksacks that you probably carried your school books in, oh no, it’s much sleeker and sophisticated in style.

The trailblazers are of course 3.1 Phillip Lim and Alexander Wang

But if you don’t have a spare £900 to splash there are some great buys to be found on the high street.

I really love this look. I’m a huge fan of the sports luxe style that’s been hanging about for a few seasons, and is set to stay for summer too. It’s simple, easy to wear but offers that high fashion look, which this style of backpack is perfect for.

You may feel like a school kid sticking a backpack on but this look is definitely one that will be seen outside the school gates. Not only are these bags beautiful but seriously practical -uh oh! Did I really just say something could be super stylish and useful at the same time?! It’s not often we get that is it.

Being a mum I understand the importance of having as many hands free as possible, but I also don’t believe that my sons’ nappy bag should double as my handbag…so hey presto, dilemma sorted.

If you’re not yet convinced take a look at some of these beauties currently available on the high street.
