Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

It’s the start of another week and a new season, have you noticed all the leaves on the ground?  I can’t believe how quickly it changes and summer fades.

Last week in Friday’s post I blogged about one of the big autumn trends, velvet. The first of this weeks’ posts is another key look for autumn, and a firm favorite of mine – metallic.

A little like velvet, metallics used to be kept for those special sparkly occasions, but over the last few seasons it’s slowly become more acceptable, if you’re brave enough, to wear the shiny stuff in your every day wardrobe.  We’re in for a treat this season though, you’ll see all shades of metallics that’ll remind you of those huge tubs of sweets you buy at Christmas, (and eat before it’s any where near Dec 25th) from your standard  bronze, silver and golds to dusty pink, glorious greens and midnight blues.

Hopefully the above pics will give you inspiration and show how easily a little bit of twinkle can update outfits you already wear everyday. Team a beautiful metallic pleat skirt with chunky knitwear and white trainers for daytime cool, then chuck on a pair of heels for evening glam.

My favourite way to do metallics is with denim, I do live in jeans, but try pair of metallic silver courts with ripped, skinny jeans, it’s just mwah!  Or how about a big slouchy, silver sequin jumper with light blue jeans, fab teamed with the last of that summer sun-kissed skin and so effortlessly cool.

Have a look at some of the magic metallics our high street has to offer, these are definitely buy now wear all season pieces, and as the temperature really drops just layer up and continue to shine.

Vavoom in Velvet

September has made finally made an appearance and didn’t that just creep up on us? Whilst we’ve been lucky enough to still experience some rays of summer sun, fashion is most definitely feeling the autumn season.

When I blog I normally write about trends and styles I’m particularly fond of, but as I’m extremely fond of you lot I think it’s only fair to give you a well rounded view of all things planet fashion. With that in mind today’s post is about sumptuous velvet.  I’ve never been hugely keen on velvet, but it’s a massive trend for autumn/winter that’s already widely available on the high street, and it can encompass a lot of the other trends you’ll be seeing throughout the season, so here we go.

I find velvet very 90’s and I just can’t go there again right now, but it is a trend that’s really key for the season and it’s easy to put together a grunge velvet dress, over a t-shirt and team it with DMs, but it’s also actually rather modern and sophisticated, think wide leg, high waist trousers, blazers and beautiful heels.  Have a look at some of the inspo below.

Hopefully you can see from the above how easy it can be to work this luxurious fabric into your every day wardrobe with bomber jackets, blazers and cami style midi dresses, but it’s also a great addition for those special occasion outfits, maybe a you’re a guest at a winter wedding or even thinking about party dresses for the festive season?!

If you don’t like the idea of committing to a trend fully it’s always easy to give a little nod with great accessories whether that’s jewellery, shoes or a bag.  Take a peak below at what our fabulous high street already has to offer.  Happy browsing and bring on the weekend.

Jump to It!

It’s been a while since I did something on jumpsuits, about 10 months, which is about how long I feel my pregnancy has lasted so far (only 3 more weeks to go), and I’m desperate to be able to rock one of my beautiful jumpsuits again.

Summer is the perfect time to give this look a try if it’s not something you’re already confident with, this is because there are a lot of causal styles available which are perfect to team with your whiter than white trainers, and of course our favourite sandals.

A jumpsuit is now acceptable attire for pretty much any and every occasion, we have a wedding in July and all things well I will more than likely look to a jumpsuit over a pretty dress as the perfect outfit option, but you can easily wear a jumpsuit for work or play, beach or bar, wedding or girls night out.  It’s even a super stylish way to dress down when you’re getting some R&R, see below.

Now don’t get me wrong, there is of course one major issue in wearing a jumpsuit – the toilet situation!  I wonder just how many of us have been caught extremely short when we couldn’t get our zip undone, or the queue for the ladies was a little longer than expected! The only way to combat this situation is to give yourself plenty of time to get to the toilet, take a friend if your jumpsuit has fastenings in hard to reach places, and (this is probably the most important) check your toilet has a working lock as nobody wants to be caught with their pants down do they – pardon the pun.

If you’re not great with accessorising, always too much or too little, you can find jumpsuits that come with belts ready to go, taking away the worry of whether what you’ve put together goes.  Some even come with jewellery like the navy M&Co one listed below, but you can basically style them up as much or keep it as simple as your feel comfortable with.

With so many shapes, styles, prints and patterns to navigate I’ve rounded up a few of my favourites that’ll cover holidays, parties, special occasions and even office appropriate attire.  I hope you enjoy and I’d love to hear or see how you guys rock your jumpsuits.

Beachwear Essentials

Which way is the beach?  I don’t know but I hope I get there soon.  It’s that time of year when we all start to think about the warmer weather that a beach holiday offers us whether it’s a full on 2 week break with the family, or a fun filled weekend away with the girls.  And the most important thing to plan after you’ve booked your ‘hols’ is of course your beachwear wardrobe.

Long gone are the days of a plain vest and pair of shorts being chucked on to get you from breakfast to the sun lounger, now your outfit is more likely to consist of sandals, beach bag, kaftan, swimwear, jewellery, sunglasses and a hat…phew that’s a long list, especially if you’re off for 14 whole days of summer sun.

Of course it’s not all about posing around the pool, but if you look good, you’ll feel good and everyone has little anxieties around holiday season as to how they may look lying on a lounger in comparison to everyone else.  You also don’t have to be flashing a lot of flesh to feel sexy, and it certainly doesn’t matter when it comes to topping up that tan – have you seen how many straps the swimsuits and bikinis have nowadays?!

Take a look at some of the inspirational images below and you’ll see how easy it is to chose you best feature to flash.

Don’t let your holiday wardrobe stress you out, we all want something new to wear but I bet if you look back through what you bought last summer you’ve got some real gems already waiting to be worn again.  Then all you need to do is update with a few choice accessories, maybe a new cover-up or pair of sandals and before you know it you’ll be itching to get your body on that beach.

So with that in mind here’s a round up of some of my favourite summer suitcase purchases from swimwear to cover-ups, temporary tattoos, jewellery and beach clutches, plus much more.   I like to shop at big high street and online stores like Topshop, H&M and ASOS, but it’s also good to find independent stockists like Dancing Leopard and Beach Cafe where you can find new brands, along with all sorts of bits and pieces other people may not yet have spotted.

Seeing Sequins

OOOh I’m so excited, I’m waiting on the arrival of my Markus Lupfer Lara lips tee, it’s due today…eeek!  I know it’s not anything particularly new, but I’ve been trying to track down this orange sequin version for some time, and I finally found it on Vestiaire Collective.  Also finding it here gave me the chance to purchase at less that half the original retail price.  To me it was a bargain, but my husband still almost had a heart attack at the fact I would spend so much on a t-shirt…men!

Markus Lupfer tees and jumpers are often seen gracing the chests of some very high profile celebs.  His sequin embellished designs are iconic and instantly recognisable, offering a glam yet still understand look.  Of course ML isn’t the only design to use a smattering of sequins to adorn their tees and tops, Tom Ford, Kenzo, Givenchy are of course, all good company  but the prices here quickly sky rocket.

I’m surprised it’s taken the High Street so long to cotton on.  Quite often at Christmas you’ll find the fun novelty sequin jumpers, but if you want to steal this sequin style for summer there are currently lots of options out there, and all at less than half the cost of the designer originals. H&M and River Island are doing a particularly good job, so go check them out, and if my Markus Lupfer tee makes it’s arrival I’ll be posting later on Instagram so you can see it in gorgeous gloriousness!

They Call it Mellow Yellow

Yellow may not be the first colour you think of searching for when out shopping, but let’s be honest, it’s more likely to pop out and grab your attention rather than requiring you to hunt it down.  And if you’ve been out and about on the high street over the last couple of weeks you’ll probably have noticed more and more of this vibrant shade peeping through the rails of clothing and shelves of shoes.

We were lucky enough to be treated to some gorgeous sunshine last weekend, granted we’ve returned to rain, but if you want to keep that warm sunny glow about your person yellow is the way to go.

I talk a lot of about key colours, or the colours of the season and am a firm believer in the fact that you can wear whatever you colour you like.  Never think something is off limits just because of skin or hair tone, all that’s needed is to make sure you’re wearing the right shade.  Yellow has a fantastic spectrum with everything from muted mustard, pale pastels and high-vis neons.

I like to wear yellow as a block colour on my bottom half, I just bagged myself a pair of the bright yellow wide leg cropped trousers from Zara (I’ve listed them below), then you can team it with anything on your top half – prints, stripes, lace or more block colours.  Try it as a zingy alternative to your usual jeans or black bottoms and I think you’ll be surprised at how well it works. If you’re not feeling brave enough to go full force just yet, you can add a hint with mouth watering accessories whether that’s shoes, bags, hats or jewellery.

Go on, create your own sunshine till that little yellow ball of fun returns to our skies.

Bold Statements or Delicate Details

Morning! Sorry for my silence this week, the Bank Holiday Monday threw me then we’ve had sickness and Birthdays galore! I’m currently putting the last of my organisational skills into my son’s 3rd Birthday party this Sunday, we have 30 kids coming – just don’t!

Anyway, I couldn’t leave you lonely all week, plus I’ve had a couple of requests and of course want to give you topics you want to read about, so keep them coming.  And with that in mind today’s post is about statement necklaces and the variations they come in.

I guarantee that when you hear statement necklace you think big, bold, over-sized and eye-catching, and you wouldn’t be wrong. If you’re looking for a quick, easy and often a cost effective way to elevate your outfit, a big chunky statement necklace is without a doubt your go-to accessory. There are also countless trends that can be easily channeled just by adding this one statement piece. Depending on the season or just your mood, you can do deco, minimal, tribal, boho, Victoriana – the list is endless.  Just take a look below at some catwalk and street style inspo.

Now, if chunky jewellery isn’t your thing, the very modern and oh so trendy way to do a’statement necklace’ is actually by layering up lots of dainty chains and charms.  I personally love this look and it’s something I wear a lot of, in fact I sleep in my chains and deal with the knotted consequences every morning!  It’s also a really nice way to inject some individuality into your outfit, you can pick charms that have a meaning or reference to you – star signs, engraved discs, nicknames, children’s initials. And if you don’t have the time or it’s just too much effort you can now buy your multi chains already attached, meaning it couldn’t be easy to achieve this layered look.  Be inspired by the below.
