Vavoom in Velvet

September has made finally made an appearance and didn’t that just creep up on us? Whilst we’ve been lucky enough to still experience some rays of summer sun, fashion is most definitely feeling the autumn season.

When I blog I normally write about trends and styles I’m particularly fond of, but as I’m extremely fond of you lot I think it’s only fair to give you a well rounded view of all things planet fashion. With that in mind today’s post is about sumptuous velvet.  I’ve never been hugely keen on velvet, but it’s a massive trend for autumn/winter that’s already widely available on the high street, and it can encompass a lot of the other trends you’ll be seeing throughout the season, so here we go.

I find velvet very 90’s and I just can’t go there again right now, but it is a trend that’s really key for the season and it’s easy to put together a grunge velvet dress, over a t-shirt and team it with DMs, but it’s also actually rather modern and sophisticated, think wide leg, high waist trousers, blazers and beautiful heels.  Have a look at some of the inspo below.

Hopefully you can see from the above how easy it can be to work this luxurious fabric into your every day wardrobe with bomber jackets, blazers and cami style midi dresses, but it’s also a great addition for those special occasion outfits, maybe a you’re a guest at a winter wedding or even thinking about party dresses for the festive season?!

If you don’t like the idea of committing to a trend fully it’s always easy to give a little nod with great accessories whether that’s jewellery, shoes or a bag.  Take a peak below at what our fabulous high street already has to offer.  Happy browsing and bring on the weekend.

Coverting Camis

I’m back! Well I’ve got a little spare time to myself after getting my head round baby No 2, and what a gorgeous little bundle she is but jeez, two is a whole other world! Never the less it’s good to be back on the laptop and hopefully writing something you guys might enjoy reading.

It’s a nice easy piece to get myself back in the saddle, but it’s totally relevant and about a item of clothing that I’ve never really been that bothered about, till now – the cami.

Once a piece of attire you kept as sleepwear or as something to team under a sheer top, but now camis are most definitely taking center stage.  I’ve never been that fussed by them, always opting for a bit more of a statement top to wear with jeans, trousers or a skirt, but we had a wedding not long after baby No2 arrived and whilst I was tearing my hair out over what to wear, I managed to find a beautiful Whistles skirt at my local ‘preloved’ shop Friends Dress Agency.  Check them out by the way, Victoria, who owns Friends is fabulous and has some incredible stock.  Anyway, I needed a top and had no idea where I was going track something down with T-12hours till my flight to Ireland. Luckily New Look came to the rescue with the most perfect silky cami in navy, which you can see here, along with my new arrival and the hubs.

This off the cuff purchase for a dressy affair has now become part of my everyday wardrobe.  It’s pretty much my ‘go to top’ instead of a black, white or grey tee, regardless of what I’m wearing, see below for some inspiring ways to wear.

I’m not the only one who sees the worth of a humble cami, the high street is full of them whether you’re doing dressed up or down, spring, summer, autumn or winter there is a cami for every occasion. You probably even have one tucked away in your underwear draw, or screwed up in the back of the wardrobe.  If you do dig it out and give it a new lease of life, or have a look at some of the below and treat yourself.  You’ll be impressed, I promise.

Jump to It!

It’s been a while since I did something on jumpsuits, about 10 months, which is about how long I feel my pregnancy has lasted so far (only 3 more weeks to go), and I’m desperate to be able to rock one of my beautiful jumpsuits again.

Summer is the perfect time to give this look a try if it’s not something you’re already confident with, this is because there are a lot of causal styles available which are perfect to team with your whiter than white trainers, and of course our favourite sandals.

A jumpsuit is now acceptable attire for pretty much any and every occasion, we have a wedding in July and all things well I will more than likely look to a jumpsuit over a pretty dress as the perfect outfit option, but you can easily wear a jumpsuit for work or play, beach or bar, wedding or girls night out.  It’s even a super stylish way to dress down when you’re getting some R&R, see below.

Now don’t get me wrong, there is of course one major issue in wearing a jumpsuit – the toilet situation!  I wonder just how many of us have been caught extremely short when we couldn’t get our zip undone, or the queue for the ladies was a little longer than expected! The only way to combat this situation is to give yourself plenty of time to get to the toilet, take a friend if your jumpsuit has fastenings in hard to reach places, and (this is probably the most important) check your toilet has a working lock as nobody wants to be caught with their pants down do they – pardon the pun.

If you’re not great with accessorising, always too much or too little, you can find jumpsuits that come with belts ready to go, taking away the worry of whether what you’ve put together goes.  Some even come with jewellery like the navy M&Co one listed below, but you can basically style them up as much or keep it as simple as your feel comfortable with.

With so many shapes, styles, prints and patterns to navigate I’ve rounded up a few of my favourites that’ll cover holidays, parties, special occasions and even office appropriate attire.  I hope you enjoy and I’d love to hear or see how you guys rock your jumpsuits.

Summer White Out

Have you been reading the papers or seen the news?  Apparently we are on the cusp of a wonderfully hot heatwave in the UK, it’ll probably last a week and that’ll be the summer over in a flash, but if there is ever a time when it’s right to wear white it’s during the summer time when it’s hot, hot, hot!

I know, I know – White!  It’s a tough colour (or non-colour) to wear if you have kids, take public transport or just live a normal everyday life, but it’s also incredible stylish, chic and as we all learnt at school, it reflects the light and heat so effectively an all white outfit should keep us cooler than fashions other favourite ‘colour’, black.

Just take a look at the below all white outfit inspo – everything from street wear to beachwear and lots more in-between.

It’s so hard to write this without any of the cheesy white gags, but are you now feeling that everything could be ‘all white’…..Sorry!

It’s not a look that should be saved exclusively for your wedding day, but if you’re a wedding guest steer well clear, unless otherwise directed by the bride.

So have I got you thinking this is a look you fancy trying whether you’re home, or away on hols when it’s often much easier to do with a little bit of sun kissed skin, then take a look at the below and feel free to get in touch with your all white outfits I would love to see them.

You Deserve a Trophy.

Phew…what a week!  I know it’s only a short one but it feels like it’s taken forever to get to this point, hence my lack of posts this week.  Never the less I’ve made it, fueled by all the ‘Easter’ chocolate we have hanging around the house that is never going to see the light on Sunday.

I don’t know about you but I’m all about an easy wardrobe.  I love the ‘oh this old thing’ look, which can actually take a lot of time to perfect, but once you’ve got it your wardrobe will be full of easy to wear basics that work with everything.  That said as much as I am a jeans and tee girl through and through sometimes you just need something else to elevate your look to the next level.  Clever accessorising, a change of footwear or my ultimate – the trophy jacket.

If you don’t have one trust me you need one, I’ve got more than I should admit to and they all get their fair share of wear.  My love affair began a long time ago with a fantastic specimen from the Kate Moss at Topshop collection, the right amount of beading to give that boho Kate vibe but in silky fabric that gave it endless outfit opportunities.  Just take a look at the inspo images below, this piece can go with everything from denim cut offs to your LBD on a night out.

One of my favourite places to hunt out a beaded or embroidered beauty is in H&M, I have found a couple of little gems in here all at great prices.  Obviously if you go for something beaded it’s likely to cost a lot of than it’s embroidered sister, and if you have kids or maybe you’re just a little bit reckless with your clothes sometimes, you could end up losing the beads so have a think about what’s most cost effective, but at the prices most of these are below how can you resist?  Go on, treat yourself to a trophy.

Pretty Little Peasent

Hello my name is Josie and I’m addicted to buying boho blouses! Well I’m just addicted to buying clothes in general, but at the moment I seem to be accumulating a substantial collection of these little boho beauties.

I don’t know whether it’s because I’m pregnant and can still wear a size 10 in these voluminous tops, or if it’s just this style of dressing conjures up images of me (post bubs) in my denim cut-offs in some far flung destination, well maybe just Ibiza sipping cocktails at sunset, that has me reaching for my wallet every time my little eye spies a tassel and embroidery detail.

Whatever the reason for my latest lusting there is a great selection on the high street with the summer stock trickling in, so if you are looking for a suitcase essential that you can also rock right now with your everyday denim look no further.

Queen of laid-back catwalk cool, Isabel Marant, always always pulls this look off so spectacularly, but of course in a Parisian understated way and her SS16 offerings were no exception.  You’ll see some inspo from her catwalk show below and you can see how easy it is to take this bikini beach cover-up to high fashion, everyday essential.

Feeling the love and the free spirit of this beautiful little boho blouse? Here are my high street favourites….Peace!

Fun, Flirty and Floaty – The Frock You Need, Now!

Hello March, we’ve been expecting you.  We weren’t however expecting these gale force winds and torrential downpours, at least the beautiful daffodils popping up give a true feeling that Spring is finally on the way.

I don’t know about you but I’m also desperate for a bit of newness in my wardrobe too. Don’t get me wrong, I pretty much live in my jeans and love them dearly, especially at the moment whilst I’m harvesting another human being, but nothing says Spring/Summer wardrobe like a floaty, floral frock.

Believe it or not this style of dress is actually a key transitional wardrobe item.  It’s perfect to layer up right now, I’m talking tights, over the knee boots, chunky knits or a polo, finished off with a shearling jacket – yep serious layers, see below inspo.

But as soon as the grey clouds disappear and sun starts to warm your bones this dress can be worn with beautiful sandals or fashions’ current footwear fav, the white trainer.  And it will of course be one of the first things you pack in your holiday suitcase.

With all that said what are you waiting for, no need for the other half to moan at the purchase of yet another dress, especially when cost per wear it’ll end up being one of the most cost-effective items you’ve bought. Here’s some of my current favourites.
